Woodson News

Most of the time I am so busy in the mornings that I do not take the time to watch or appreciate the sunrise. The past few mornings, although sleeping in was the plan, my mind awoke and I peeped through my eyelids to recognize that it is truly “darkest before the dawn,” but if we hold on long enough, the light appears and the colors! Wow! The colors! From bright white horizon to deep blue to the Sun’s orb beginning to peep through the red, pink, orange until it finally brings the full light of day. It is wonderful. It is glorious!

Speaking of light, we will be seeing more of it, as the shortest day of the year has passed and now the days begin to lengthen. The pullets I have left (the bobcat took five hens in three days last week, while I was down with the bug) have begun to lay and will only increase until the days begin to shorten next summer.

Summer… we will all be thinking how warm that sounds during the cold temperatures this week.

Cold… well, it is the Christmas season. There is nothing like a brisk evening and Christmas lights. Bundle up and take a drive and go see the lights! Or grab a blanket and turn out all the lights except the Christmas tree and you’ll be surprised how far away the cold remains.

It’s Christmas break! That means when we return that seniors only have 18 weeks of life as they know it.

If you need basketball during the break, the Electra Tournament is Dec. 28-30. So if you feel like driving on over, go watch the kids at Electra.

I am hoping to start my Christmas shopping this week. I may be just a little behind.

High school OAP practices are set for the spring! Each member of our troupe has a calendar and a script to be memorized by Monday, Jan. 9.

County stock show is Jan. 6 and Jan. 7. If you’d like to donate, please send your checks to TCJLS, c/o Tacy Ellis, 427 S. US Hwy 183, Woodson, TX 76491. Or, just come to the show in January. The kids work hard and so appreciate your backing them. Thank you show board and supporters!

Don’t forget that stock show set up is mandatory for all exhibitors and will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, at the county barn. Clean up is also mandatory, and will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8.

Please pray for Donald Bulmer, Keith & Mae Boyd, Earlene Bellah, Alene Forest, Dick “Pop” Hash, Thomas Ash (who is home), Ronnie Rankin, JerriAnn Cornett, Danny Bellah, Jo Lester, Luis Pipkin, Larry Long, Brad Whitaker, Annette Harper, Milford Hoskins, Tammy Halliford, Doris Walters, Mitchell Harris, Joanne Self, Upton Dean, Linda Northam, Jean &Thomas Brockman, Arliss Willingham, Carolyn Tate, Butch Hinkle, Janice Devenport, LB & Barbara, Pam & Paul Allen, Jeannette Herrington, Thora & Paul Thurn, Butch Timms, Stephen Miles, Sandra & Ter- ry Redwine, Sharon Gober, and Nanci McKenzie. Maybe if you go through your closet and donate your old shoes, Santa will bring you some new ones! Pair up your used shoes and donate them to the Booster Club Fundraiser! Take the shoes to Hometown Hardware, FSB in Throckmorton, or to Higginbotham’s in Breckenridge. When 2,500 pairs of shoes have amassed, Woodson kids will earn $1,000.

Happy December Birthday to: Cashton Clark, Sam Mills, Kiki Buse, Thora Thurn, Mark Ellis, Mary Bellah, Eloy Rosales, and Dale Deaton! Anyone else?

Happy December Anniversary to Dale and Resa Deaton! Oh, yeah, Happy Anniversary to Mark Ellis, too, he and his bride (me) have been married 42 years.

Keep praying for rain! Even in the form of snow, it is welcome! Thankful for whatever we get!

Have a beautiful Christmas and may the Light spill into and overflow in our lives!
