Buckaroo coaches comment on UIL canceling 2020 spring sports

With the announcement that all Texas schools are to remain closed to in-person learning, the University of Interscholastic League has canceled all remaining 2019-2020 spring activities and state championships.

Coming out of the preseason with the #2 ranking in district 3A, the Buckaroos baseball team were well-positioned to compete for a state championship before the pandemic.

Shortly before UIL suspended play, the Bucks were riding high with a 7-2 record.

Texas Governor's small-business webinar series to offer assistance

The Governor of Texas is inviting all small business owners and entrepreneurs to a webinar series for COVID-19 recovery resources on Wednesday, April 15, from 1 to 2 p.m. The event will provide Texas small business owners and entrepreneurs with timely, actionable information on resources to aid during the pandemic.

The event will discuss information such as:
    •    Paycheck Protection Program
    •    EIDL Loan Advance
    •    SBA Express Bridge Loans
    •    SBA Debt Relief

Community offers support to families during pandemic

During the Stephens County weekly update on Friday, April 10, community leaders offered counseling to families during the COVID-19 pandemic. The offer comes as various law enforcement departments have seen an increase in family violence across the county.

Since the “Stay-At-Home” order for Stephens County became active at midnight on Tuesday, March 24, numerous calls were made to the Breckenridge Police Department for family matters.

South Elementary suspends packet pick-up, drop-off

As of Monday, April 13, South Elementary has shifted the method of the school work packet-pickup process. The cancellation comes as a South Elementary employee informed Breckenridge ISD of possible contact with COVID-19.

According to BISD, the administration became aware of the situation Thursday, April 9, at approximately 3:45 p.m.

At that time, the employee believed they may be symptomatic. The administration felt compelled to inform of the potential risk to South Elementary parents and students.

Walmart implements new guidelines for employee safety measures

Walmart announced Tuesday, March 31 that the company will begin to check the temperatures of all employees before the start of their shift. The company will also make a mask and gloves available for all employees.

In a joint statement released from John Furner, President & CEO, Walmart U.S. and Kath McLay, President & CEO, Sam’s Club, the two outlined the proactive measures by the retail giant.

Banks restrict lobby access, provides update on PPP loans

Customers of the First National Bank were greeted by a closed gate on Monday morning, April 6. The bank joins InterBank and Graham Savings and Loan as financial institutions who have restricted access to their lobbies to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

At First National Bank, customers are still allowed to check safe deposit boxes and will be given access to the lobby on a case-by-case basis.
