Voting ended last Tuesday in the runoff election for the March primaries with a low local turnout in Stephens County. A runoff election was held for the Democratic and Republican candidates in which no single candidate earned more than 50% of the vote in the March 1 primary election.
Breckenridge High School held graduation ceremonies for the 93 students in the Class of 2022 on Friday, May 27 in the Breckenridge ISD Athletics and Fine Arts Center.
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced Friday a sales tax holiday for water-efficient and Energy Star rated products. The holidays were created by the Texas Legislature and will take place Saturday, May 28, through Monday, May 30.
Registration is now open for several “summer fun classes” hosted by and held at the Stephens County Texas A&M Agrilife Extension office. Classes are available for students in grades 3rd through 12th, who can sign up for any or all of the offered classes now through Friday, June 3.
Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls released a list of its spring honor students Tuesday, May 17, which included two students from Breckenridge. The list included 1,040 honor students for the Spring 2022 semester.

East Elementary Student Council students and sponsors Tammy McGrady, the school’s counselor, and Tiffany Wade, special education aide, recently held a hydration drive for local first responders. The drive brought in over 4,000 bottles of water and sports drinks which was donated to local departments last Monday, May 16. Students on the council are Bayler Baugh, Kase Young, Cambree Nimmo, Marielle Green, Milly McClymond, Mariana Gallegos, David Duran, Krawford Kennedy, Kinzley Wade, Tate Bartoskewitz, Carder McClymond, and Evelyn Halari. Breckenridge ISD board of trustees approved over $300,000 for the purchase of a new scoreboard for Buckaroo Stadium during a special meeting last Wednesday, May 18.
Breckenridge High School will hold graduation for the 93 students in the Class of 2022 this Friday, May 27. Commencement ceremonies will begin at 7 p.m. in the Breckenridge ISD Athletics and Fine Arts Center.
