City approves additions to street improvement project

As the city continues to work on improving the street infrastructure of Breckenridge, a second change order for phase two of the street improvement project was initiated by the city to include three additional streets already identifi ed in the street improvement plan. The change order is for phase one of the 2024 paving improvements project.

Texas farmers concerned over growing trade war

Texas farmers are voicing growing concerns about tariffs being enacted by President Trump adversely affecting their ability to sell agricultural goods overseas, the Houston Chronicle reported. Texas Farm Bureau President Russell Boening said the tariffs could be especially tough on younger farmers.

County votes to abolish county elections administrator position

During an executive session of the commissioner’s court last week, current Stephens County elections administrator Jared McLane submitted his resignation, citing another job opportunity. McLane came to the conclusion that he does not feel that it is a full-time position and recommended to the court to abolish the position and revert the voter registrar to the tax assessor- collector office, and that the election duties and functions be performed by the county clerk’s office.

David Miller resigns as BEDC Executive Director

The Breckenridge Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) is in the process of looking for a new Executive Director as David Miller has resigned from the position, effective yesterday, March 11. Miller had been in the position for just over two years after being hired as the executive director December 20, 2022.

City stresses visible 911 addresses in ordinance update

Everyone’s worst nightmare is a loved one having an emergency and the first responders not arriving on the scene in time to do all the proper life-saving measures. In most cases, the first responders do everything they can to help the person the best they can and were trained to do.

City hall upgrades, expansion started

As they have had more and more meetings in which there has been standing room only, the Breckenridge City Commission meeting room in the city offices is getting extra space. The work that began Thursday is pushing the far wall behind the commissioner’s table back 12 feet, which will create space for a few more rows of public seating.

BHS Band wins sweepstakes

Competing in the UIL area concert and sight reading competitions Wednesday, Feb. 26, the Pride of Breckenridge Buckaroo Band scored division 1 ratings in both categories. Pairing those scores with the division 1 ratings they received in the marching contest in October, the Breckenridge band earns a “sweepstakes” honor.
