Early voting began Monday in the runoff election for the March primaries. A runoff election is held for the Democratic and Republican candidates in which no single candidate earned more than 50% of the vote in the March 1 primary election.
Five Breckenridge Buckaroos competed in the UIL State Track and Field Meet in Austin last weekend, medaling in three out of four events and finishing in second place overall.
Breckenridge ISD will host a retirement celebration for multiple retiring district employees next week. The event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. next Wednesday, May 18 at the Administration Office, located at 208 N. Miller Street.

Property owners may soon receive an appraisal notice from the Stephens County Appraisal District. The appraisal district mailed about 11,500 appraisal notices last Wednesday, May 4. City, county, school district and other local taxing units will use the appraisal district’s value to set your 2022 property taxes.
A Chapter 313 application from La Casa Wind, LLC, from NextEra Energy Resources, was approved by Breckenridge ISD last week during a special meeting. The application is related to a 150 MW wind energy farm being considered for the southeast portion of Stephens County.
East Elementary took the 2nd grade class to tour South Elementary to see the school they will attend next school year. Each group was taken by 5th grade students to see the whole school and meet the teachers and classes they may have next year. The 5th grade students that took each class around were very open to the kids learning each teacher’s name and was always asking if they had questions and would answer to the best of their knowledge. Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman of the U.S. Small Business Administration announced last week that low-interest federal disaster loans are available to Texas businesses and residents affected by the Eastland Complex Fire, which occurred March 16 through March 30. SBA acted under its own authority to declare a disaster in response to a request SBA received from Gov. Greg Abbott on April 25.
The 2022 Texas A&M Aggie Muster was held Thursday, April 21 at The Popular in Breckenridge. The guest speaker was John A. Adams, Jr., Texas A&M University alumni and author.
