Gas prices increase across state, still 5 cents lower than last year’s

Average gasoline prices in Texas have risen 21.7 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.82/g today, according to GasBuddy's survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 8.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 5.7 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 1.4 cents in the last week and stands at $4.67 per gallon.

BEDC hires new Executive Director

The Breckenridge Economic Development Corporation has hired a new Executive Director, David Miller, in a called meeting, Tuesday, Dec. 20. Miller will begin his official duties after the start of the New Year.

Band celebrates Christmas

The Pride of Breckenridge Buckaroo band members celebrated the upcoming holiday Monday, Dec. 19 at First Baptist Church of Breckenridge. Band Booster President Carrie Duncan organized a Christmas party for the high school band students, with numerous other band booster parents volunteering their time to decorate and provide a safe environment for the teenagers, overseeing games and gift distribution.

Another positive sales tax month for city

The city of Breckenridge will see another increase in sales tax returns this month from the same period a year prior. These allocations are based on sales made in October by businesses that report tax monthly.

Second grade students from East Elementary traveled Monday, Dec. 19 to the Stephens County Courthouse for their annual field trip. Students were able to listen to Christmas stories, ask questions, visit with Santa and Mrs Claus and sing carols.

The Breckenridge Woman’s Forum enjoyed a Hawaiian Christmas during their December meeting. The hostesses presented everyone with leis as they entered the building and the venue was decorated with a tropical theme.

Hubbard Creek Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tom Claybrook retired from his position with the department Monday, Dec. 12. Following his retirement, HCVFD held an internal election to choose who would take over their official positions.
