It was deja vu for the Buckaroos during their Friday, Oct. 11 home football game against Clyde.
The cross country season came to an end for many runners Wednesday, Oct.9 at the District 8-3A Cross Country Meet, which took place at Dublin High School. This week’s feature will highlight two athletes who competed at the event.
Unforced errors got the best of the Lady Bucks in their district matchup Tuesday, Oct. 8 at home against Comanche. Although the Lady Bucks kept the set scores close, they ultimately fell to the Maidens 3-1.
The Maidens jumped ahead early in the opening set by taking advantage of mistakes by the Lady Bucks. Of the Maidens’ first five points, four in a row came from swings that sailed out of bounds by the Lady Bucks.
Breckenridge High School will be well-represented in Lubbock later this month. The BHS cross country teams competed Wednesday, Oct. 9 at the 8-3A Cross Country Meet at Dublin High School with both the Buckaroos and Lady Bucks advancing runners to the 3A Region I Cross Country Championships.
The Buckaroos advanced as a team by finishing second overall in the team standings, with Eastland and Peaster also advancing as teams to the region meet. Sayler Townson will represent the Lady Bucks at the meet after finishing inside the top 10 in the girls’ varsity race.
The cross country schedule is progressively getting more difficult as the team prepares for the cross country version of the playoffs.
The team traveled Wednesday, Sept. 25 to the Dublin Dash.
Dublin is a course the cross country teams need to prepare for as they will return Wednesday, Oct. 9 for the district meet.
“Though this is a competitive course due to the addition of the hills, this is also the same course that they will run at district,” coach Valeria Williams said.
The Buckaroos entered the Friday, Sept. 27 homecoming matchup against Tolar knowing they would need to play a near-perfect game to come out with the upset victory.
Instead, the team’s struggles with consistency on both sides of the ball continued to mount, leading to a 42-6 loss to the Rattlers.
The offense has shown at times throughout the season that it can move the ball down the field, but finding the end zone has been the struggle.
The Lady Bucks opened homecoming night festivities in a big way Friday, Sept. 27 with a dominating 3-0 win over Dublin.
While coaches do not typically like talking about distractions, or use them as an excuse, Lady Bucks coach Emily Gravitt used the obvious distraction to her advantage in a pre-match talk with her team.
“If you want to get to the homecoming stuff, you’ve got to take care of business,” Gravitt said. “We’ve got to out there and get it done. The faster you get it done, the faster you get to go to homecoming.”
Stepping up and taking advantages of opportunities when they are presented became a theme in this week’s athletes.
Kamden Tidwell and Christian Flores have been named the Breckenridge American’s Athletes of the Week.
This week’s athletes are recognized for performances in games and events which took place Sept. 23-27.
