Buckaroos baseball gets one final sendoff, sweeps Aledo Bearcats

The Breckenridge Buckaroos senior baseball team put on home jerseys for one final time as the team hosted and swept an exhibition doubleheader against the 5A #12 ranked Aledo Bearcats and won a friendly home run derby.

Winning 4-0 in the first game of the doubleheader and 7-5 in the second matchup, Buckaroos seniors were able to end their final game on a positive note on Thursday, June 4 at the D.D. Woodard Stadium and Dee Escalon Field.

Guidelines set for Buckaroo summer workouts

Breckenridge ISD Athletics Department has provided an outline for the return of student/athletes to in-person, on-campus training.

Week 1 of Buckaroo offseason workout will begin at 7:30 a.m. Monday, June 8. Workout days will be Monday through Thursday, with no workout on Friday.

Workouts include all athletes from grades 6-12 for the fall of 2020.

The purpose of the guidelines set for on-campus summer activities is to help prevent workplace exposure to COVID-19 for all student/athletes, coaches and staff.

Stanley signs to play volleyball at Howard Payne University

Madison Stanley, a Breckenridge High School senior, officially signed her letter of intent to play volleyball at Howard Payne University.

Stanley was a three-sport student/athlete and chose volleyball after a season-ending ACL tear.

Buckaroo sports camps scheduled for summer

The Breckenridge Buckaroos have set dates for the 2020 Buckaroo baseball, football, and Lady Buck volleyball camps.

Breckenridge Buckaroo Baseball Camp is set for Monday, June 22 through Thursday, June 25 at O.D. Woodward Stadium. The camp is open to second through ninth-graders for the Buckaroos baseball camp and will feature coaches and players of the Breckenridge Buckaroos. Incoming 2nd and 3rd graders will have camps from 8 to 8:45 a.m., with incoming 4th-6th graders from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Incoming 7th-9th graders will have camps from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Justin Bell signs to play for USW Mustangs

Surrounded by friends and family, Breckenridge student/athlete Justin Bell committed to play baseball for the University of the Southwest Mustangs at his family home on Thursday, May 14. Casey Pearce, athletic director and head football coach, and Kevin Bartley, head baseball coach, were also in attendence.

Celebrating our Buckaroos

Although sports were canceled for Spring 2020, Stephens County can be proud of the honors the Breckenridge Buckaroos basketball team accomplished this past season. Under the direction of head basketball coach Colby Hartfield, the Buckaroos won 24 games with seven seniors during the 2019-2020 season.

Aaryn Medina received three Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors, including District 7 AAA offensive, Big Country Prep Offensive, and All-Big Country 3A.

FCA cancels 2020 All-Star Festival

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) has canceled the Big Country 2020 All-Star Festival. The events was expected to take place from Sunday, June 7 through Saturday, June 13, but due to the severity of COVID-19.

The cancellation includes the inaugural all-star golf tournament, the baseball and softball games and the girl and basketball tournament.

The Breckenridge Independent School District had seven student-athletes out of 320 selected to compete in the Big Country 2020 Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) All-Star Festival.

Buckaroo coaches comment on UIL canceling 2020 spring sports

With the announcement that all Texas schools are to remain closed to in-person learning, the University of Interscholastic League has canceled all remaining 2019-2020 spring activities and state championships.

Coming out of the preseason with the #2 ranking in district 3A, the Buckaroos baseball team were well-positioned to compete for a state championship before the pandemic.

Shortly before UIL suspended play, the Bucks were riding high with a 7-2 record.
