Voter registration deadline for November election

The deadline to register to vote in the November 2023 election is approaching.

Voters wishing to vote in the election, which includes 14 potential constitutional amendments, must register by Tuesday, Oct. 10. Texas law requires all eligible voters to register by the 30th day before election day.

To be eligible to register to vote in Stephens County, a resident must be a United States citizen, resident of the county and at least 17 years and 10 months old on the date of submission of the voter registration application and 18 years old on election day.

To be eligible a resident must also not be a convicted felon, but may be eligible to vote if they have completed their sentence, probation and parole. A resident must also not have been declared by a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be either totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated with the right to vote.

A voter registration application can be obtained and returned to the Stephens County Election office 30 days prior to the election date.
The election office is located at the Stephens County Courthouse at 200 West Walker St. Applications for ballot by mail must be received no later than the close of business Tuesday, Oct. 10.

Only people renewing their driver’s license online can register to vote online.

There are local elected seats on the ballot this November. More information also is available at the Texas Secretary of State’s election website: www.votetexas.gov/

In August, the Deputy Secretary of State Joe Esparza drew the ballot order for the 14 proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution. Texans will vote on these amendments as a part of the Nov. 7 election.

You can check to see if you’re registered and verify your information at teamrv-mvp.sos.texas.gov/MVP/mvp.do.

You’ll need one of the following three combinations to log in: Your Texas driver’s license number and date of birth. Your first and last names, date of birth and county you reside in. Your date of birth and Voter Unique Identifier, which appears on your voter registration card.

Early voting will take place weekdays beginning Monday, Oct 23 and run through Friday, Nov. 3. Early voting hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Nov. 2-3 when hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. On election day, Tuesday, Nov. 7, polls will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
