Bucks baseball open district with pair of wins

Buckaroos baseball will enter the last half of spring break riding high with a pair of blowout wins to open the district season. Following a pair of weekend wins in Wichita Falls against Windthorst and Olney, the Buckaroos start the district schedule with wins over Comanche and Eastland.

The Buckaroos’ offense trampled the Indians and Mavericks by scoring 13 runs in both of the wins in games played March 12-13.

Lady Bucks split spring break games

After a hot start to the district schedule, the Lady Bucks struggled through two games during spring break. Despite the struggles, the Lady Bucks overcame a late rally Wednesday, March 13 to split games against Comanche and Eastland.
The Lady Bucks opened the back-to-back with a loss Tuesday, March 12 against the Maidens and followed with an eight-inning win Wednesday over the Lady Mavericks.

Lady Bucks win second straight district game

The Lady Bucks earned a big win Friday in Brock. By taking advantage of a six-run fifth inning, the Lady Bucks improved to 2-0 in district play with a 9-5 win over the Lady Eagles.

Going into the game, the Lady Bucks knew it would be a tough game. The Lady Eagles swept the Lady Bucks in two games last season. Compounding early season struggles with closing out games, it was going to be a tough game.

Bucks win back-to-back games in Wichita Falls

Wet weather forced Windthorst High School to move its tournament to Hoskins Field last weekend. The Bucks, after only getting one inning of play Friday, March 8 due to rain, won back-to-back games Saturday, March 8.

A six-run first inning propelled the Buckaroos to a win in the first of two games played Saturday, March 9. The Buckaroos took a 5-0 lead before recording a single out in the game. The runs started with the bases loaded and Ashton Reyes up to bat. His ground ball to third base brought home Junior Duran.

Reyes, Cowan named Athletes of the Week

The Breckenridge American announces Ryleigh Cowan and Ashton Reyes as this week’s Athletes of the Week.
This week’s athletes are being recognized for performances in games and events which took place March 4-9.

Reyes, a senior infielder for Buckaroos baseball, had a busy week last week. He played three games of baseball and competed in a region powerlifting meet.

During the powerlifting regional Friday, March 8 in Decatur, Reyes took second overall in his weight class and earned a trip to the state powerlifting meet.

BJHS track competes in Jacksboro

Breckenridge Junior High School competed Monday, March 4 at the Jacksboro Middle School track meet. The teams will compete again Friday, March 8 at the Lobo JH Relays taking place in Cisco. Following spring break, BJHS will compete in the Yellowjacket Relays Tuesday, March 19 in Boyd. The season will conclude in Breckenridge with the district meet Tuesday, March 26.

Bucks take three games in ACS tournament

The Buckaroos finished the Gary Brackeen American Cancer Society Tournament with a 3-1 record March 1-2. Serving as a fundraiser, the tournament hosts 30 teams with games played at six locations.

The Bucks claimed wins over Cache (Okla.), Clyde and Southwest Christian School (Fort Worth).

The Buckaroos opened the tournament with blowout victory over an out-of-state opponent.
After taking a 2-1 lead in the first inning, the Buckaroos’ offense exploded for eight runs in the top of the fifth inning.
