BHS track sends athletes to region meet

Breckenridge High School will be represented by 14 athletes this weekend in Abilene at the 3A Region 1 track meet.

These athletes advanced last week as top-four finishers in their respective events at the area track meet Thursday, April 11 at South Elementary.

The top two finishers in each event April 19-20 in Abilene will advance to the state meet May 2-4 in Austin.

Bucks, Lady Bucks sweep Dublin

Both the Lady Bucks and Buckaroos completed season sweeps over Dublin in baseball and softball.
The sweeps were completed with a pair of shutout victories Friday, April 12 in Breckenridge.

A fan watching the game from behind the center field wall proudly displayed a sign that said, “J Jackson Hits Bombs.” The sign proved to foreshadow the game, which included four home runs. Two of those his by Joni Jackson.

The Lady Bucks combined for 14 hits. Charlie Salazar and Carlee Stewart each added home runs of their own.

Bucks, Lady Bucks defeat Comanche

The Lady Bucks took a major step toward a district championship last week while the Buckaroos earned an important bounce-back win. Both teams earned wins Friday, April 5 in a sweep over Comanche.

Buckaroos Coach Jeremy West credited his team for its consistency in a six-run win over the Indians. Camden Escalon provided consistency as the starting pitcher, striking out 11 batters while giving up two hits.

BHS track competes at district meet

The “playoffs” have officially started for the track and field season with the District 8-3A meet taking place April 3-4 in Dublin.

The teams competed for a chance to send their athletes to next week’s area meet taking place in Breckenridge.

Varsity athletes that finished in the top four of their events move on to compete, during next week’s area meet, taking place Thursday, April 11.

Wimberley, Valdez named Athletes of the Week

The Breckenridge American announces Sawyer Wimberley and Ruthie Valdez as this week’s Athletes of the Week.
This week’s athletes are recognized for performances April 3-4 at the District 8-3A track meet.

While several members of Breckenridge High School track had a successful district meet last week, Wimberley was among the most successful.

As a sprinter, Wimberley earned three first-place finishes to advance to this week’s area track meet. He finished first in both the 100 and 200-meter dash.

BHS track competes at Optimist Relays

Breckenridge High School competed in its final tune-up before the track and field “playoffs.”
The Buckaroos and Lady Buckaroos competed Thursday, March 14 at the Colonel Mobley Optimist Relays in Stephenville.

Both varsity teams will compete April 2-3 in Dublin at the District 8-3A track meet for a chance to move on to the area meet Thursday, April 11 at South Elementary.

Bucks, Lady Bucks earn big district wins

District races are heating up in both baseball and softball. Both the Lady Bucks and Buckaroos earned important wins to close out last week.

Both teams remained in contention with big road wins at Millsap. The Lady Bucks earned a run-rule victory Thursday, March 28, while the Bucks earned a nine-run win the following day.

Robinson, Martinez named Athletes of the Week

The Breckenridge American announces Raegan Robinson and Neiko Martinez as this week’s Athletes of the Week.

This week’s athletes are recognized for performances in games and events which took place March 25-30.

Robinson has been both an energetic presence in the dugout and has provided timely hits for the Lady Bucks softball team.

In wins over Peaster and Millsap last week, Robinson was 3-for-6, including a triple. She scored two runs and earned five RBIs as the Lady Bucks combined for 16 runs in the two wins.

BJHS track hosts District 8-3A track meet

The Breckenridge Junior High School track teams competed in the final meet of the year Tuesday, March 26. Breckenridge hosted the 8-3A District Track & Field Meet at South Elementary.
All four teams had strong showing with BJHS finishing in fourth place or better in each of the team standings. The eighth-grade boys had the best finish of the four teams with a second-place finish. Both seventh-grade teams finished in third place. The eighth-grade girls’ team finished in fourth place.
