Sen. Charles Perry filed three bills Tuesday, Jan. 22, to begin the first steps in creating a statewide flood plan, which will allow a path to fund flood mitigation projects, according to a release from his office.

“We live in a big state, we’ve had big disasters and we need a big response to address flooding in Texas,” Perry stated in the release. “If the legislature passes the first ever statewide flood plan, it will positively affect every community across Texas and save lives.”

The Ag Barn in Breckenridge hosted the 61st Stephens County Junior Livestock Show and Sale Awards Banquet Thursday, Jan. 24. The event featured food for attendees, and announced the winners from the livestock show, which was held about two weeks ago.

The event doubled as a celebration of the process of working with livestock. Participants, many of who are children, were honored with their showmanship of the animals they worked with, while some received checks for selling their livestock at auction.

Due to a new law that went into effect on Jan. 1, hospitals, including the Stephens County Memorial Hospital, have been required to release the charges of the procedures they offer.

While the move was made as an effort to help promote transparency, SMH CEO Matthew Kempton said the listed charges may not be the most reliable when it comes to determining how much you will pay.

Three boil water notices were rescinded Thursday, Jan. 24, according to releases from the city.

The notices rescinded were 500 through 900 Blocks of North Parks, which was issued Jan. 10 originally, South Jackson to Lowell on the southside of Highway 180 East and all of Lowell, which was issued Jan. 11 originally, and Harvey to Live Oak and 7th Street to 4th Street, which was issued Jan. 21 originally.
