Bucks open season with loss to Holliday

The Breckenridge Buckaroos opened their 2026 baseball season at home this week, falling 14-4 to a disciplined Holliday Eagles lineup that built an early lead. 

In the game Monday, Feb. 16, Holliday struck for two runs in the first inning on a pair of RBI singles, then added four more in the second to take a 6-0 advantage.

Buckaroo football schedule released

Right in line with the University Interscholastic League’s announcement of district and regional realignment for the 2026-2028 cycle, the 2026 schedule for Breckenridge Buckaroo football was recently released. 

Dropping down to Class 3A Region II, District 4, the Buckaroos will have a fresh set of teams on their district schedule, which begins in October. 

The season begins with the annual Watermelon Scrimmage, lining up with Media Day and taking place Saturday, Aug. 8 at 10 a.m. at Buckaroo Stadium.

Bucks dominate Indians on Senior Night

The Breckenridge Buckaroos (18-13, 9-4) made sure Senior Night ended the right way, delivering one of their most complete performances of the season to roll past the Comanche Indians (4-29, 3-10), 63-42.

Hot shooting, swarming defense and contributions across the roster led to the domination Friday, Feb. 13. Head coach Brent Lucas said the team rose to the moment.

Balanced attack, second-half surge lifts Bucks past Bulldogs

The Breckenridge Buckaroos (17-12, 8-3) bounced back from their home loss to the Dublin Lions earlier in the week with a balanced scoring effort to defeat the Millsap Bulldogs (6-23, 2-9), 68-49 on the road. It was the kind of response head coach Brent Lucas said his team needed.

“We needed that one,” Lucas said. “It puts us in a good spot going into our last three.”

The Breckenridge Buckaroos (16-12, 7-3) and Dublin Lions (12-15, 6-4) went toe-to-toe for four quarters, trading momentum swings, big shots and defensive stops in a game that never drifted more than a few possessions either way. But in the final minute, the break the Bucks needed stayed just out of reach as they fell 65-61 in a district thriller at home.

Buckaroos see shifts across football, volleyball and basketball in 2026-28 UIL realignment

The University Interscholastic League (UIL) has released its conference and district realignments for the 2026-2028 cycle, bringing several notable changes for Breckenridge High School athletics. 

While the Buckaroos and Lady Bucks remain in Class 3A, all three sports – football, volleyball and basketball will compete in new districts over the next two school years, including a significant shift for football.

Bucks handle Mavericks in first game back from winter storm

The Breckenridge Buckaroos (15-10, 6-1) overwhelmed the Eastland Mavericks (1-21, 0-8) from start to finish in their return to the court following the winter storm, rolling to a 72-16 district win behind suffocating defense, constant pressure and a deep scoring effort.

Breckenridge opened the game Thursday, Jan. 29 on an 18-0 run and led 21-3 after the opening quarter, which was sparked by a steal and no-look backward pass from Douglas White to Hudson Woodward for the first basket. White added a putback and turnaround jumper, while Woodward scored again inside off a Cruz assist.

Lady Bucks fall short to Lady Mavericks

The Breckenridge Lady Bucks battled throughout, but couldn’t overcome early scoring droughts and second-chance points by the Eastland Lady Mavericks, falling 34-27 in their return to action following a few days off from school due to winter weather.

The Lady Bucks trailed 10-2 after the first quarter Thursday, Jan. 29, with their only points coming on a strong finish inside by Kyra Canada. Eastland controlled the glass early, converting multiple offensive rebounds into points.

This year’s opener will again be the Buckaroo Bash, taking place Thursday, Jan. 22 in the Breckenridge ISD Athletics and Fine Arts Center Main Gym. The meet will feature lifters from across the region and serve as a key early test for the Buckaroos. Bars will be loaded at 5 p.m.
