Lady Bucks unable to slow Greyhounds’ pace in road loss

The Breckenridge Lady Bucks opened their game against Peaster with confidence and early shot-making, but the Lady Hounds’ pressure and transition game gradually took control as they handed the Lady Bucks a 49-21 loss.

Breckenridge struck first when LaKyla Bartley buried a three-pointer at 5:52, and Analia Palacios added a free throw moments later. Paisley Thibodeaux banked in a three at 4:22, and the Lady Bucks kept attacking. A Nevaeh Johnson putback at 3:25 and another Thibodeaux layup at 2:54 kept them within reach.

Buckaroo cheer team to compete Thursday at UIL Spirit State Championships

The Breckenridge Buckaroo cheerleading team is gearing up for one of the biggest stages of its season as the squad prepares to compete at the UIL Spirit State Championships this week.

The team offered fans a preview of its competition routine during halftime of the boys’ basketball game Tuesday, Jan. 6, performing the full sequence they will take to state. The showcase featured the group’s synchronized chants, sharp motions and stunt sequences that have been the focus of months of practice.

Bucks crush Lions to stay undefeated in district

The Breckenridge Buckaroos used a dominant defensive stretch in the second and third quarters to pull away from the Dublin Lions and earn a 58-37 road win, improving to 3-0 in district play.

Dublin opened the game Friday, Jan. 9 with a pair of quick layups, but the Bucks settled in behind strong interior play. Douglas White fed Cooper Wimberley for an early bucket, Jaime Cruz attacked the rim and Joseph Juneau scored twice – once on a follow of his own miss – to keep the Bucks within a possession.

Bucks go 2-2 at Eula Holiday Classic

The Breckenridge Buckaroos’ week at the Eula Holiday Classic was a tale of two halves, as they opened with losses to Bells (52-34) and Muenster (47-41) before surging back with dominant wins over Llano (68-38) and Abilene TLCA (75-21). After two cold-shooting performances to start the tournament, the Bucks regrouped and closed out the final day with their most efficient offensive stretches of the season.

Lady Bucks drop final game before break at Eastland

The Breckenridge Lady Bucks opened with energy and early shot-making, but Eastland’s depth and steady scoring stretches proved too much to overcome in the final game before the Christmas break, as the Lady Mavericks pulled away for a 52-31 win.

The Lady Bucks weathered an early 6-0 Eastland run Friday, Dec. 19, before settling in behind a strong first quarter push. Nevaeh Johnson’s midrange jumper plus the foul at the line at the 4:12 mark got the Lady Bucks on the board, and two free throws from LaKyla Bartley at 2:23 helped close the gap.

Bucks crush Mavericks in district opener

The Breckenridge Buckaroos dominated from start to finish Friday night, Dec. 19 as they overwhelmed Eastland with defense, rebounding and a steady stream of transition scoring on their way to a 54-10 victory.

But even in a lopsided win, head coach Brent Lucas said the opening stretch didn’t meet the team’s standard.

Bucks finish fourth in Graham tournament after strong early showings

After earning a win in each of the first two days of the Graham basketball tournament, the Bucks found their way into the third-place game that took place Saturday, Dec. 13. They ultimately dropped that game, 62-37, to the Clyde Bulldogs (9-4) to finish fourth in the tournament.

The Bucks opened the tournament Thursday, Dec. 11 with a strong 52-47 win over the Sweetwater Mustangs (4-6), pulling away late to secure a victory.
