Lady Bucks fall to Comanche in district opener

The Lady Bucks opened district play Friday night, Dec. 12 against the Comanche Maidens and struggled to withstand Comanche’s full-court pressure, falling 74-14.

The Maidents forced a wave of early turnovers and turned nearly every steal into points, racing out to a 24-2 lead after the first quarter. Breckenridge’s lone points in the opening frame came from Analia Palacios at the free-throw line.

Lady Bucks participate in HD Howard Classic in Lipan

The Breckenridge Lady Bucks traveled to Lipan High School this week to take part in the annual HD Howard Classic Tournament.

The Lady Bucks were matched up against Lipan and Chapin in Pool A for the tournament that started Thursday, Dec. 4 and concluded Saturday Dec. 6 with bracket play. The Lady Bucks opened the tournament play against host Lipan at the New Gym Thursday morning, falling 71-11.

Breckenridge returned to action Friday morning against Chapin at Jimmy Tate Court, where they dropped their second pool contest by a 46-19 margin.

Bucks go 2-2 in Buckaroo Shoot Out

The Breckenridge Buckaroo Shoot Out tipped off last week at the Athletic and Fine Arts Center, bringing in a competitive field that included Wichita Falls City View, Abilene Christian School, Snyder, Munday, Clyde and Hawley. The Buckaroos were slotted into Pool A alongside City View and Abilene Christian, while Cisco had to withdraw due to the Loboes’ ongoing football playoff run. Pool B featured Snyder, Munday, Clyde and Hawley.

Lady Bucks set to compete in HD Howard Classic at Lipan

The Breckenridge Lady Bucks are headed to Lipan High School this week to take part in the 2025 HD Howard Classic, a competitive girls basketball tournament featuring 12 teams split across four pools.

The Lady Bucks will compete in Pool A alongside Lipan and Chapin, opening up pool play Thursday, Dec. 4 with a matchup against Lipan in the New Gym. They will return Friday, Dec. 5 at 9 a.m. to face off against Chapin on Jimmy Tate Court.

(Photo/Alex Kielar) Sophomore receiver Ryan Waller earned the top honor for the Buckaroos in the all-district awards as he was named Offensive Newcomer in District 3-3A Region I after ranking third in the district with 730 receiving yards.

Buckaroos earn all-district honors

The Breckenridge Buckaroos made the playoffs for the first time in three seasons and while they didn’t get the result they would’ve liked in the bi-district round, they had several peak performances from several players in all three phases. In turn, the Bucks had many all-district selections to be proud of.

The top all-district award for District 3-3A, Region I given to the Bucks was Offensive Newcomer, going to sophomore wide receiver and defensive back Ryan Waller.

Bucks fall to Steers in tough road battle

The Breckenridge Buckaroos showed heart and hustle in a tough road matchup against the Graham Steers, ultimately falling 48-38 in a physical contest that tested both teams’ depth and resilience.

The game which occurred Monday, Nov. 24 was the Bucks’ second game of the season and final contest before Thanksgiving. Breckenridge came out swinging in the first quarter as they led 11-10.

Lady Bucks hold on to defeat Lady Cubs

The Lady Bucks played host to the Olney Lady Cubs for their final game before Thanksgiving and held on for a 51-43 victory.

In the game that took place Monday, Nov. 24, the Lady Bucks outscored Olney in all four quarters as they leaned on strong play from point guard LaKyla Bartley and backcourt players Analia Palacios and Preslie Malcuit.

Bucks outlast Plowboys in season-opening win

The Breckenridge Buckaroos tipped off their season against the Roscoe Plowboys at home and were able to outlast the visiting team in a thrilling 46-42 victory.

In the game that took place Friday, Nov. 21, the Bucks jumped right out to an early lead as they transitioned from football season. After a quarter of play, they led 15-7, leaning on players like Conor Salazar, Jaime Cruz and Flores to start the scoring off.

Salazar recorded a pair of two-point shots, while Cruz added a two-point and a three-point shot and Flores knocked down two shots from behind the arc.

Lady Bucks drop game to Mineral Wells

The Breckenridge Lady Bucks traveled to Mineral Wells to take on the Lady Rams, falling 53-33 as they dropped to 1-5 on the season.

In the game that took place on Friday, Nov. 21, there was not much going on offensively early on for the Lady Bucks, as they trailed 17-5 after the first quarter and 21-7 at halftime.

Scoring for the visiting team in the first half was LaKyla Bartley on a reverse layup, Analia Palacios with a three-pointer at the top of the key and a midrange score from Paisley Thibodeaux.

Lady Bucks earn academic all-state nods

Two Breckenridge Lady Bucks’ volleyball athletes and four cross country runners–one that was also selected for volleyball–were selected to the recently announced academic all-state teams from the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA).

The THSCA announced the 2025-26 academic all-state teams for cross country, team tennis, volleyball and water polo Wednesday, Nov. 19. This award recognizes students from 14 different U.I.L sports who excel in three categories: grade point average, class rank and ACT/SAT performance.
