Bucks fall to Indians

Struggles hit both teams during 3-1 loss to the Comanche Indians that moved the Bucks to 7-11 in district overall.

The Bucks faced the Indians on their home field Tuesday, April 14, with the Bucks getting the first jump to the board in the third inning with Hudson Woodward singling and scoring Brenham Walker who had advanced on a walk and a sacrifice hit by Preston Burns.

The bottom of the third is where the Indians took the lead and scored two and later brought the final game score after a pop fly in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Three Bucks represent BHS at state powerlifting

Three Buckaroos hit the bench at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association’s State Championships last week and represented both the school and community.

After a sendoff from Breckenridge ISD students, staff and the community, Erik Saucedo, Leo Mendoza and Eduardo Salazar competed Friday, March 27 in Abilene in the Division 3 competition of the THSPA State Championships.

In the 148-pound weight class, Salazar placed 15th with lifts of 465 pounds, 305 pounds and 480 pounds for an overall total of 1,250.

Buckaroos bounce back into the win column

The Breckenridge Buckaroos made a statement 12-2 win at home against Dublin, making their district record 5-1 moving into week four.

The Bucks struck early in the game Friday, March 27 after a sacrifice fly which scored Hudson Woodward, who doubled on the first pitch of the game, setting the tone for the rest of the afternoon. 

Woodward started on the mound for the Bucks. He gave a masterclass performance, with five innings, seven strikeouts, while allowing five hits and one earned run.

Buckaroos compete in Optimist Relays

The Breckenridge Buckaroos are halfway into their track schedule and saw highlight performances in the Colonel Mobley Optimist Relays in Stephenville last week.

The relay was held Thursday, March 26 at Stephenville High School, with each Breckenridge team placing in the top 10.

The teams ran Thursday, April 2 in the Seymour High School Maroon and White Relays and are gearing up for district which will be held April 8-9 in Dublin.

Lady Bucks compete at state powerlifting

Eight Lady Bucks represented their community last week in the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association’s State Championships.

The Lady Bucks competed Thursday, March 19 in the 3A-D1 State Championship at the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg.

First place regional champions and state qualifiers were Isabelle Biddison, Sofia Lopez and Rihana Fuller. Lady Bucks who scored second place and also qualified for state are Chanelle Reyes, Collom Perkins, Analia Palacios, Kyra Canada and Rylee Fuller.

Buckaroos take off in Jacksboro HS Invitational

The Breckenridge Buckaroos are nearing the halfway point of their district track and field schedule and saw standouts performances at the Jacksboro High School Invitational last week. 

The meet was held Thursday, March 19 at the Jacksboro ISD stadium with each Breckenridge team across JV and varsity scoring in the top 10.

Buckaroos earn THSCA Academic All-State honors

The Texas High School Coaches Association recently announced the Academic All-State teams for basketball, with several Buckaroos honored for their efforts in the classroom and on the court.

The award recognizes students who excel in the categories of GPA, class rank and ACT and SAT performance. 

To be eligible an athlete must be in good standing with the team, of good moral character, a senior and have an overall GPA of 92 or above.

Three Bucks heading to state powerlifting

Three Buckaroos will march on to the state competition with qualifying totals achieved during their regional competition.

Ten Breckenridge High School athletes competed in the Region 6 - Division 3 competition held Thursday, March 12 and Erik Saucedo, Leo Mendoza and Eduardo Salazar qualified for the state competition.

The Texas High School Powerlifting Association’s State Championships will be held Friday, March 27 at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene. The Division 3 opening ceremony will be held at 7:50 a.m. and lifting will begin at 8 a.m.

Breckenridge takes off in Lobo Relays

Breckenridge athletes across JV and varsity took home top marks in the Lobo Relays.

The Lobo Relays were held Wednesday, March 4 at Cisco High School after previously being scheduled for Thursday, March 5. 

All four Breckenridge teams scored second-place team scores out of seven participating schools.

Other schools participating in the event were Jim Ned, Cisco, Stamford, Hawley, Albany and Clyde.

Lehr continues legacy of success

Former Breckenridge Buckaroo and current University of North Texas runner Chase Lehr continued a legacy of success by winning the 800-meter run at the 2026 American Conference.

The 2026 American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship was held Feb. 27-28 at the Birmingham Complex in Alabama. The North Texas men’s team scored a fifth place spot while the women’s team scored a first place finish in the competition.

The Breckenridge Class of 2023 graduate scored first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:47.67.
