Here is what is happening this week:

City commissioners to meet

The Breckenridge City Commissioners will meet for their normal meeting at 5:30 p.m. The agenda looks to be short, with four items on the consent agenda and a couple resolutions up for individual consideration. One item of note is a resolution that will allow for the city manager to apply for a Criminal Justice Division Grant.

Homecoming Week

Homecoming week has come and gone in Breckenridge, with the festivities capping off tonight in the football game against Dublin. The festivities included dress-up days at the schools, a parade and pep rallies on Friday. Those pep rallies included one for the high school at 10 a.m. and one at East Elementary at 1:15. Tonight the town will also learn who King and Queen are. Regarding the parade, the winning floats were:

First — Little Bucks Cheerleaders

Second — Wee School

Breckenridge man killed in one-vehicle accident

A Breckenridge man was killed in a car crash Tuesday evening after he collided with a concrete pillar on Interstate 40, according to a press release from officials.

James Jenson, 36, was driving an 18-wheeler towing a semi-trailer. According to the release, Jenson swerved off the road into the south barrow ditch for unknown reasons and collided with a concrete pillar of the U.S. Highway 183 overpass bridge.

The vehicle caught fire and was destroyed. Wheeler was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the incident and the road conditions were dry. 

State representatives Charles Perry and Mike Lang hold town hall in Breckenridge

Texas Sen. Charles Perry and Rep. Mike Lang visited Breckenridge Wednesday, and held a town hall at the Texas State Technical College (TSTC) Technology Center. Several officials from the area were in attendance, as well as a few residents.

They discussed issues the state of Texas is facing. These issues included school safety, child protective service changes, property tax reform, the education system and healthcare. They also discussed the politics of the state and nation.

Homecoming week

This week, Breckenridge will celebrate Homecoming with a variety of events and festivities throughout the week. The schools will celebrate with dress-up themes, and have special menu items for lunch. The themes are as followed:

• Monday: Athletes vs. mathletes

• Tuesday: Tourists

• Wednesday: Twins Day

• Thursday: Super heroes

• Friday: Greenout

Bucks fall to Brock 20-9, drop to 2-2 on season

The Buckaroos continued to struggle on offense Friday, against Brock on the road. 

What looked to be a potential shootout early on settled down, as both teams scored quickly in the first quarter but struggled to find their way across the end zone again in the first half. For the Bucks, it would be the only time they would find the end zone all night.
