Candidate filing for the Texas 2022 March Primary Elections ended at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13. Filing officially opened Saturday, Nov. 13. Candidates can file with their party chairs in the county for a place on the March 1, 2022 primary ballot.

BFD fights to contain FM 701 grass fire

Breckenridge Fire Department, along with volunteer fire departments from Hubbard Creek, Wayland and Eliasville, responded to a large grass fire Friday on FM 701, north of Breckenridge. The fire was still being contained as of Sunday, according to BFD.

Bailey steps into leadership role over Palo Pinto Communications

The newspaper group of Palo Pinto Communications is welcoming a new, but familiar leader. Kylie Bailey, who previously served as the group’s creative director, has stepped into a new role overseeing operations of the group’s three publications The Graham Leader, Breckenridge American and Jacksboro Herald-Gazette.

Filing officially opened Saturday, Nov. 13. Candidates can file with their party chairs in the county for a place on the March 1, 2022 primary ballot.

Area investigation underway of law enforcement impersonation incident

The Young County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident of the impersonation of a law enforcement officer which occurred Friday, Nov. 19. The Throckmorton County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Saturday, Nov. 20, detailing the incident which occurred to a female resident of Throckmorton traveling from Graham. All counties that border Throckmorton County were notified.

County approves precinct changes

Due to redistricting, Stephens County shift from being in two congressional districts to one. Commissioners approved an item to allow County Elections Administrator Christie Latham to begin the process of changing each precincts’ name during last Monday’s regular meeting.

Since 1972, Stephens County had been represented by one U.S. Representative, shifting from District 22 to District 30 before the 1992 elections, and then to District 24 in the 1994 elections.

SMH begins COVID-19 vaccine requirement, per CMS regulation

Stephens Memorial Hospital announced that, due to an emergency regulation issued by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the hospital district would begin requiring all staff to receive a COVID-19 vaccination. The CMS emergency regulation went into effect Friday, Nov. 5.

Stephens County Humane Society hosting annual fundraiser 5K, Fun Run

The Stephens County Humane Society is calling all dogs and animal lovers to the Wags & Whiskers 5K and Furry Fun run in December. All proceeds from the event will benefit the humane society.

The Stephens County Animal Welfare Center in Breckenridge is a non-profit, no-kill animal rescue shelter which works with partner organizations and individuals across the country to match animals with homes.

Candidate filing for the Texas 2022 March Primary Elections opened Saturday, Nov. 13 across the state. Candidates can file with their party chairs in the county for a place on the March 1, 2022 primary ballot. In Stephens County, several incumbents have announced their intentions to run for re-election.
