Walker-Sayle unit celebrates 25 years

The story about the Walker-Sayle Unit did not begin when the first clients arrived in August 1994. It began much earlier in the planning stages with the Stephens County Prison Task Force led by chairman Dale Cary along with members Ward Veale, King Hoerman, Mark Martin, Stan Carstens, Bruce Curry, Dwain Tolle, Virgil Moore III, Jerry Gibson, Jerry Toland, and James C. Hestand, as early as 1989.

BISD Superintendent Seymore holds going away party

A going-away party was held for Breckenridge Independent School District’s Superintendent Tim Seymore on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at the district’s administration building. Seymore has been a member of the BISD team for five years.

The event took place from Wednesday morning through afternoon to allow for district staff and other residents to stop by and say their goodbyes to Seymore. Snacks and drinks were also available at the party, as well as a Dr. Seuss book that friends and co-workers were invited to sign and write a parting message.

County commissioners keep burn ban on, approve task force with SMH

The Stephens County Commissioners Court voted to leave the burn ban on and approved various business at their Monday, July 22 meeting, including agreeing to help set up a task force with Stephens Memorial Hospital. They also allowed the Breckenridge Economic Development Corporation to lend assistance with the new rodeo arena.

SMH meets with city, county officials to discuss ambulance services

Representatives from the city of Breckenridge and Stephens County met with the Stephens Memorial Hospital board to discuss paying for the hospital’s emergency medical services at the hospital board’s regular meeting on Thursday, July 18.

Employees with Sacred Cross, the hospital’s current EMS, were also at the meeting to breakdown and explain the EMS’s costs. The hospital board also discussed their monthly finances at the meeting and laid the foundation for a task force to find out what the hospital’s biggest needs are.

Boil water notice in effect Monday, July 22›

A boil water notice was put into place for U.S. Highway 183 North from 7th Street to the end of the system, and West 7th Street from Parks Street to Harvey Road. The notice is effective Monday, July 22, according to a release from the city.

Due to a water line break from construction, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the system to notify all customers within the specified block to boil their water for at least two minutes prior to consumption, according to the release.

FCC to expand broadband access to more than 100 rural Texas counties

Almost 34,000 Texas homes are going to be receiving internet access as part of the Federal Communications Commission’s broadband expansion plan, according to a release from the FCC. This expansion will bring broadband to almost 100 counties across the state and more than 200 homes across the Stephens, Throckmorton, Palo Pinto and Shackelford County area.
