A boil water notice was put in place on Tuesday, Jan. 15 for North Parks from Jeanette to Second Street, according to a release from the city.
Due to a water line break from construction, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the system to notify all customers within the specified block to boil their water for at least two minutes prior to consumption, according to the release.
Residents at Villa Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center were the recipients of a grant fund from the Elk’s Lodge #1480 in Breckenridge. Wayne Justus, a member of the local lodge said each year the “Gratitude Grants” are given by the National Elks Foundation. The local lodges usually receive around $10,000.
This year the Elk’s #1480 purchased bed size blankets, clocks, puzzles, and an assortment of other household items for the residents.
The Daughters of the American Revolution announced their Good Citizens Award for a few local high schools, according to an announcement from the DAR.

The city of Breckenridge put out two boil water notices in the past wee. ne for the 500 through 900 Blocks of North Parks, effective Thursday, Jan. 10, and one for the 600 through 700 blocs of Zest lm treet, effective unday, Jan. 13, according to release sfrom the city. In both cases, a water line broke during construction, causing the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to recommend residents in the aficted areas boil their water before consumption.
The city of Breckenridge is partnering with Republic Services to conduct a monthly bulk pickup for residents in Breckenridge this year, according to a release from the city.
Residents are allowed up to three bulk items with no loose trash. The city is asking to please place bulk items at least three feet away from the poly cart. All items must be at curbside the day before collection. A specific collection vehicle will collect the items, as well as bagged or bundled yard waste. The vehicle will only collect once from each residential unit, according to the release.
Timothy O’Malley comes to the area as the new publisher after a stop in Freestone County covering for The Teague Chronicle and The Fairfield-Recorder, with a background in all areas of the newspaper. He will fulfill the role of Publisher over Palo Pinto Communications, a limited partnership which manages The Graham Leader, Breckenridge American, Jacksboro Herald-Gazette and Lake Country Shopper under the principal ownership of Moser Community Media. The publisher describes himself as a community man and someone who wants to see a community succeed.
The Stephens County Sheriff's Office has arrested a Fort Worth man due to a suspected assault of an elderly man, according to a complaint filed.
Delvin Eugene Aaron, 57 of Fort Worth, Texas was arrested by Deputy Wayne McMullin on Jan. 5 in connection with a complaint filed regarding the assault of an elderly person. The arrest stems from an altercation between Aaron and the elderly man, in reference to the latter’s grandchildren riding four-wheelers near a line of fence that connects the two properties.
Stephens County Sheriff Will Holt announced the promotion of three of his staff members to Shift Sergeant. They were sworn in Monday night, Jan. 7.

• James Daniel Vickers, 44, was arrested by Officer Kirby Brown on a Stephens County warrant for injury to a child/elderly/disabled criminal negligence. His bond was set at $25,000. The suspect was transported to Stephens County jail and booked without incident.
