Charles Cruz Cortez, of Breckenridge, TX, passed away March 18, 2021. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at the First Baptist Church, Throckmorton with Rev. Dannie Lee officiating. Burial will follow services at Throckmorton Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A visitation was held Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at the funeral home, 107 N. Austin, Throckmorton, TX.
Donny Peoples, age 42 of Breckenridge, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2021. The family will hold a memorial service at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 27 at the Newcastle High School football field with Brad Owens officiating.
Martha Jane McKinnis, 93, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, passed away Monday, March 8, 2021 at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville, Arkansas. She was born January 24, 1928, to Virgil L. and Gladys Morgan Milner in Temple, Texas.
Evelyn Dee (Osborne) Pitts, age 67, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021, in Austin, Texas, after many years of suffering with kidney disease and related illnesses. She was born on June 4, 1953 in Bridgeport, to Frank Patrick Osborne and Beverly Virdell Osborne. She graduated High School in Snyder in 1972. Dee attended Western Texas College, Texas A&M University, and graduated with a BBA in Business Education from San Angelo State University in 1977. Dee worked for Adobe Oil & Gas Corporation, Midland Chamber of Commerce, and the Midland Reporter Telegram, in Midland as the librarian. With the Telegram’s support, she founded and directed the local Spelling Bee competition in Midland, where it continues today. Moreover, she organized the Permian Basin International Oil Show Media Trailer, and wrote bible studies, curriculum guides, and led numerous bible studies. She was involved in a variety of organizations: Midland Intercessors Prayer Group, Downtown Lioness Club, Professional Women’s Business Organization; Missionary President and Vice President and Director of the Food Pantry for over 26 years at First Nazarene Church
Mattie Nichols, age 79 of Graham, formerly of Breckenridge, passed away Friday, March 12, 2021. Graveside funeral services were held in the Breckenridge Cemetery at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 16 with Bishop W.C. Roach officiating. Interment followed.
Robert Allen “Bob” Phariss, 87 of Breckenridge, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 9, 2021. Funeral services begin at 2 p.m., Friday, March 12 at the Morehart Mortuary chapel with Katherine Peña officiating. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation was be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 1
Bobbie Dean Griffin, 82, of Breckenridge, Texas, passed from this life to the presence of Christ on March 2, 2021 surrounded by family and Pastor Andy Rodgers literally praying him into his heavenly home. A celebration of life will be Saturday, March 13 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Breckenridge. Officiating to include FBC Breckenridge Pastor Andy Rodgers and Dr. Genoa Goad. A visitation will follow in the FBC Breckenridge Family Life Center. Services have been entrusted to Morehart Mortuary.

Lola Dollins, age 86 of Breckenridge, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2021. Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 6 at Hart Cemetery with the Reverend Tom Moore officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation was held from 6 to 7 p.m., Friday, March 5 at Morehart Mortuary.
