Weekend win a sign of progress for Lady Bucks

The Breckenridge High School volleyball team’s steady approach to improving seems to have paid off following Saturday’s four-set victory over Jim Ned.

The Lady Buckaroos bested the Lady Indians 25-19, 19-25, 25-21 and 25-21 in a best of five series that avenged a previous loss at the Lu Allen Classic in Graham.

“They made mistakes and I knew they would,” Breckenridge coach Jeana Yarbrough said. “We made a few mistakes on our side, which were just silly errors, but not as many. What I was proud of the most was serving.”

Buckaroos fall despite strong defense

The Breckenridge High School football team began its season with a loss after falling to Cisco 20-6.

The Buckaroos’ recently implemented offense came to life early but failed to capitalize until the fourth quarter.

“It wasn’t a great night for us, but there are a lot of good things that happened,” Breckenridge coach Casey Hubble said. “We’ll evaluate the video. I told the kids ‘We’re fighters, I know we’re fighters. We’re just going to have to be smarter and to beat good teams — consistent, deep-playoff teams, like Cisco — then we’re just going to have to get better.”

Lady Buckaroos rest, refocus after Graham loss

The Breckenridge High School Volleyball Team took spent last week recuperating from a tough front end of its pre-district schedule.

The Lady Buckaroos took a break away from action following last Tuesday’s three-set loss to the undefeated Graham Lady Blues (25-11, 25-8, 25-10), which allowed them to refocus before facing a host of potential state championship contenders in the next few weeks.

Cross country runners sweep Santos Relay

SANTO— The Breckenridge High School Cross Country Team seems primed for a breakout season after sweeping the competition during its only preseason event.

The Buckaroos and Lady Buckaroos finished first in all categories Saturday during the Santos Relay, which Breckenridge coach Kim Dieterich believes is an encouraging sign for the upcoming season.

Lady Buckaroos perform well against high-level teams

The Breckenridge High School Volleyball Team return from scrimmaging multiple teams over the weekend, hoping their momentum will bring regular season success Tuesday.

The Lady Buckaroos wrapped up the preseason with scrimmages against perennial powerhouses Nocona and Archer City, among others, then faced Albany and Munday Saturday, who Breckenridge coach Jeana Yarbrough said posed a challenge despite being much smaller schools.

New offense has Buckaroos senior receivers excited

The Breckenridge High School football team returned to the practice field for the first time this season, spending much of the time working on its new spread offense.

The Buckaroos spent much of the second round of their first two-a-day practice working on their spread offense, which has senior receivers Lonnie Hinson and Terrance Roberson excited to run it during their  Aug. 18 scrimmage against Jacksboro.
