Bucks crush Bowie 32-6 (complete story)

The Breckenridge High School football team remains undefeated in district play after crushing the Bowie Jackrabbits 32-6.

The Jackrabbits jumped out an early 6-0 lead, taking advantage of their fast-tempo, no huddle offense, but Breckenridge linebacker Warren Hardy said the defense made a few adjustments to hold Bowie scoreless for the rest of the game.

“We just went with our instincts, just our feet and eyes, and did our job,” Hardy said. “Everyone just had to do their job and everything came out good. It wasn’t bad at all.”

Bucks pick up first win in overtime thriller

PARADISE— The Breckenridge High School football team picked up its first win of the season after dropping Paradise in double overtime thanks to a few plays on special teams.

Following a blocked extra point by senior defensive back Lonnie Hinson and a 25-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Owen Woodward to sophomore receiver Aaryn Medina in the second series of double overtime, the Buckaroos’ fate rested on their junior kicker Jose Escobedo who did not disappoint after splitting the uprights with a game-winning extra point.

Lady Bucks riding two-game district win streak

BANGS— The Breckenridge High School volleyball team seems to have caught fire at just the right time as the Lady Buckaroos are riding a two-game district win streak as they enter the final stretch of the regular season.

The Lady Buckaroos rolled through the Bangs Lady Dragons in four sets after falling in the first set 25-17, only to sweep the next three sets 25-19, 25-12 and 25-13.

“We do this a lot of Saturdays,” senior outside hitter Maria Alvarado said. “We get really groggy and it takes us a while to get back up … In that second set we just got to it.”

Lady Bucks XC take second at district race

The Breckenridge High School Lady Buckaroo Cross Country Team will advance to the regional meet after taking second place at the District 7 Meet in Eastland.

The Lady Buckaroos were just 22 points behind district champion Brock, which Breckenridge Coach Kim Dieterich said could have been a championship performance.

“There were a couple of spots where there were three Brock girls and a group of two (Breckenridge runners). If we could have gotten one person in there to break up each one of those, then we could have given them a run for their money.”

Dublin loss evens Lady Buckaroos to 2-2 in district standings

DUBLIN— The Breckenridge High School volleyball team will begin the second round of district play with a 2-2 record following last Friday’s loss to Dublin.

The Lady Buckaroos fell in four sets (25-17, 25-23, 22-25 and 25-19), which now has Breckenridge sitting at 2-2 and looking to separate themselves from the pack in the second round of 3A Region 1 District 6 play.

Lady Bucks face Dublin under Friday night lights

COMANCHE— The Breckenridge High School volleyball team will look to quickly shake off a three-set loss to district rival Comanche as it will play under the Friday night lights for the first time this season as part of a special Region 1 District 6 four-team double header Friday night.

The Lady Buckaroos come into Friday’s game 2-1 in district play following Saturday’s three-set loss (25-16, 25-18 and 25-22) and Tuesday’s victory over Bangs.

Coach Jeane Yarbrough believes her team could have been undefeated coming into Friday had it not been for a slow start.

Buckaroos open district play against Paradise Friday

The Breckenridge High School football team kicks off district play Friday after a lengthy break thanks to the bye week.

After giving up more than 350 yards and six touchdowns on the ground last week, Breckenridge coach Casey Hubble said the Buckaroos extensively drilled tackling throughout the bye week and that will come in handy when they travel to face Paradise’s powerful run attack Friday.

XC runners perform well in district tune-up

GRAHAM— The Breckenridge High School cross country team wrapped up the regular season with two runners placing in the top 10 of Monday’s Graham Cross Country Invitational.

Freshman runner Evan Moore finished first among all Breckenridge runners after taking fourth-place with a time of 18:38 and Moore seems in high spirits with the district meet a week away.

“I felt like I did really good, but we’re all just trying to get better for district and hopefully we will be where we need to be by then,” Moore said.

Bucks look forward to homecoming

The Breckenridge High School football team remains winless after falling to Eastland 34-7, but that could all change Friday as they host 0-3 Dublin Friday for homecoming.

The Buckaroos’ offensive woes continued as they struggled to keep up with Eastland, who built a 27-0 lead by halftime.

“We just did not play well,” Breckenridge coach Casey Hubble said. “We coach well and we did not play well. They physically whipped us.”

Lady Buckaroos open district play with four-set victory

The Breckenridge High School volleyball team opened the district season with a victory after topping Early in fourth sets (25-18, 23-25, 25-20 and 25-13).

The Lady Buckaroos may have struggled against some of Texas’ most elite teams in the pre-district season, but that adversity seemed to pay dividends Saturday.

“They were able to recognize that we messed up a few times where to set the ball and things like that, but they were able to move the ball around and because of the teams we played we were able to do that,” Coach Jeana Yarbrough said.
