Three Buckaroo lifters compete at state meet

Three lifters represented Breckenridge High School last week at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Championships.

Erik Saucedo, Ashton Reyes and Nathan Roberts competed Friday, March 22 in Abilene with two lifters finishing inside the top-20.

Each lifter qualified for the state meet Friday, March 8 at the Region 6 Division 3 Meet in Decatur.

Saucedo and Reyes earned top-two finishes in their weight class. Roberts earned his trip to state by making the qualifying weight for his weight class.

Bucks hold off Lions for district win

The Buckaroos picked up a road win at home Wednesday evening on Dee Escalon Field. After heavy rains in Dublin and poor field conditions, the game was moved to Breckenridge. The Lions played the game as the home team with the Buckaroos playing as visitors on their home field. Cam Escalon had a big day at the play to lead the Bucks to a 13-5 win.

The BJHS track teams had a successful day Tuesday, March 19 at the Boyd Yellow Jacket relays.

Breckenridge Junior High School had its final tune-up this week ahead of next week’s district track meet. The boys and girls track teams competed Tuesday, March 19 at the Yellow Jacket Relays in Boyd.
The eighth-grade boys emerged victorious in their meet. The seventh-grade boys and eighth-grade girls took second place in their respective meets with the seventh-grade girls finishing third.
BJHS will host the final meet of the season, the district meet, Tuesday, March 26 at East Elementary.

Lady Bucks trample Lady Lions

The Lady Buckaroos did not need a full seven innings to secure their third district win in four games Tuesday evening in Dublin. With 14 runs in four innings, the Lady Bucks improved to 4-1 in District 8-3A.

PK Relays rained out, Buckaroo Relays this week

Thunderstorms brought a premature ending to the Buckaroos and Lady Bucks’ days at the PK Relays.

The meet, scheduled for March 16 in Graham was called off after lightning entered the area and a continued forecast of rain.

The events listed below were the events that were officially completed prior to cancellation.

Buckaroos powerlifting prepare for state meet

While the Lady Bucks sent three powerlifters to the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association State Championships last week in Frisco, the Buckaroos had three lifters preparing for the Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Championships taking place this Friday, March 22 in Abilene.

The Buckaroos competed Friday, March 8 in the Region 6 Division 3 meet in Decatur.

With 14 lifters, the Buckaroos had the most competitors of any school at the region meet and finished in eighth out of 23 teams.

In total, 150 lifters competed at the regional.

Biddison, Marin named Athletes of the Week

The Breckenridge American announces Isabelle Biddison and Caiden Marin as this week’s Athletes of the Week.
This week’s athletes are being recognized for performances in games and events which took place March 11-16.

Biddison is one of two freshman to represent Breckenridge High School last week in the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting State Championships in Frisco. Additionally, she set a personal best while competing against some of the best lifter in the state.

Bucks rally through tragedy

The Breckenridge High School community was deeply impacted Sunday, March 3 when word got out regarding a car accident involving two of its own.

Friends and family rallied together in support of Jaxon Escalon and Hudson Woodward who were injured in a rollover accident on Hwy. 180 West while returning home from a football camp.

While both students and athletes face varying roads to their recoveries, the Buckaroos baseball team has taken this as an opportunity to rally together and play not only for each other but for their teammate, number 8.

Lady Bucks lift at THSWPA state meet

Breckenridge High School was represented by three Lady Bucks last week at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association State Championships.

Joni Jackson, Isabelle Biddison and Rylee Fuller. The 3A portion of the state championship took place Thursday, March 14 in Frisco.

The three Lady Bucks powerlifters earned their trips to the state championship by qualifying March 2 at Bells.
Biddison was the lone Lady Buck to officially record a total weight with Jackson bombing out and Fuller getting a disqualification.

Bucks baseball open district with pair of wins

Buckaroos baseball will enter the last half of spring break riding high with a pair of blowout wins to open the district season. Following a pair of weekend wins in Wichita Falls against Windthorst and Olney, the Buckaroos start the district schedule with wins over Comanche and Eastland.

The Buckaroos’ offense trampled the Indians and Mavericks by scoring 13 runs in both of the wins in games played March 12-13.
